School History

History of the Prince George Montessori Program:
Prior to 1985, Vickie Williams operated in a small, private, Montessori Elementary School with a dozen children in a portable at Van Bien Elementary School. In the spring of 1985, the Board of Trustees, School district #57, approved the establishment of a primary alternative program, based on the Montessori instructional method,  as part of Highglen Elementary School.
The rest they say, is history! Polaris (Highglen) Montessori began as a grassroots program by parents with two classes of 56 students in total has grown to fill the entire school. The Montessori program expanded to a high school program at Prince George Secondary, and there is also two preschool programs, one on site of Polaris school and one downtown.
In 2013, the Highglen Montessori School burned down and the program was resituated at the old Gladstone School in College Heights. With staff and students on site, the following years brought renovations to Gladstone school and soon the Polaris Montessori school was fully functional with a beautiful new foyer, new multipurpose room and other needed updates.
Now Polaris Montessori School is a beautiful school with approximately 200 students and 30 staff members.
